As is known to all, Nigeria’s farmed fishing had been going through a long period of hardship, including short-of-scale production of fish fries, no essential equipment support and fish medicine supply, insufficient fish feed, outdated cultivation technology, single breed variety, and so on. In the last seven years, FAO report and Nigeria Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that the fishery production (including fishing and cultivation) had been raised to 800 000 tons from 580 000 tons in 2005 with a growing rate of 30%, especially for farmed fish production that had 60% raising rate from 80 000 tons to 200 000 tons. However, fishery products are still in short supply. To be specific, the annual quantity demanded for Nigeria is about 2.6 million tons (346 billion Naira or so), but the total value of its own yield and import volume is roughly 206 billion Naira, which means the gap between supply and demand is around 140 billion Naira, approximating to above 1.05 million tons. What a huge market it is!
In line with a report from Nigeria Business Daily on the 28th of July 2016, the annual imported food and farm products in Nigeria is 1.3 trillion Naira, which illustrates that Nigeria has very serious food problems, heavily relying on imports. The recently released statistics show the annual average of global people for fish consumption is about 18.7kg, while Nigerian annual average of fish consumption is only 11.2kg, for now, Nigeria has a 1.9 million tons of fishery products gap. From the datum of Nigeria’s fish feed market, the annual total turn volume of extruded pellet fish was around one million tons in 2013, thereinto about five hundred thousand tons of extruded fish feed was imported from abroad. On account of low management level, laggard technique, shortage of fish feed caused by obsolete fish feed machines, and absence of infrastructure, Nigeria has limited local manufacturing ability compared with its huge fishery consumption market.
Aquaculture Production by Major Producers in Africa
Quantity & Percentage of World Total Production
Currently, fisheries and aquaculture continue to be crucial sources of food, nourishment, earnings, and sustenance for hundreds of millions of people all over the world, especially Nigerians. Fortunately, all the above data also tell that there are big profits for Nigerian fishery, fish farmers, fish feed manufacturers, and suppliers if they can use scientific methods to develop aquaculture, adjust measures to local conditions, and import the reasonable-priced fish feed machines with good quality to remedy the inadequate supplies of fish feed.
Fish as Food: Per Capita Supply (Average 2011-2013)
At present, it’s the fish meal and fish oil that are still the most nutritious and digestible ingredients of cultured fish feed, but their prices are too expensive. So in order to settle this issue and with the increasing feed demand, lots of producers choose to decrease the content of fish mean and fish oil when making fish feed. The most nutritious parts are always used for some specific periods, such as the fry stage, parent fish, and fattening period. To lower the production cost, fish feed makers should take tips and apply them to fish feed production lines while fish farmers need to breed fish to meet the nutritional requirements of different life stages of the farmed fish species. Moreover, the Nigerian government also needs to use local media to offer their fish farmers useful messages, including the latest feed ingredients, feed formulation, feed quality, price, and supplier information.
In order to help provide well-balanced fish feed pellets for fish farmers at cost-effective prices, as a very professional fish feed production plant designer and manufacturer, we have newly launched a series of fish feed machines with rational price and adequate quality based on the local market situations, including fish feed extruder, fish feed mixer, droplet fish feed crusher, fish feed hammer mill, fish feed dryer/cooler, and even fish feed pellet packaging machine, etc. For example, we provide wet-type fish feed extruders to Nigeria at prices from US$4 900 to US$34 000, depending on what production capacity the customers choose. Similarly, the prices of dry-type fish feed extruders for Nigeria are lower, which can be provided from US$2 700 to US$29 000 as well depending on different production capacities. By the way, as fish feed machine experts, we can customize the production capacities according to customers’ requirements. More specifically, the wet type fish feed extruder has capacities of 180-200kg/h, 300-350kg/h…1t-1.2t/h…3t-5t/h, and so on, while dry type fish feed machine is able to produce feed at 60-80kg/h, 120-150kg/h…1.8t-2t/h, etc.
By using our fish feed extruder, users can make fish feed pellets from cheap raw materials, such as straw, cereal, bean pulp, rice husk corn, etc. With a simple structure, easy operation, high temperature, and pressure processing, this machine can produce both floating fish feed pellets and sinking fish feed without Salmonellosis and germ injection. Adopting superior quality steel for a long lifespan, this feed machine is able to promote the quality and floating time of fish feed pellets, more economical than compound powder feed. Except for fishery, we can be also applied to produce feed pellets for feed mills, livestock farms, poultry farms, and so on.
Additionally, we have also designed and manufactured low-cost and stable-quality 9FQ Series Fish Feed Milling Machine, always connected to a fish feed mixer, in allusion to Nigeria’s fish feed market. With high grinding efficiency, it can be used to grind a variety of feed materials, like sweet potato leaves, soybean straw, dried grass, and other coarse materials. In a word, by virtue of easy operation, simple maintenance, low consumption, and especially reasonable prices with high performance, our fish feed production machines have been increasingly popular in Nigeria’s fishery and feed market.
